How to Create 3 Different Alfresco Dining Experiences
Once the sun is out there’s no stopping us in my household. We love to eat alfresco whenever we can. Whether it’s a BBQ, a Picnic or a Paella – eating outside is good for the soul – don’t you think? Today I’m sharing some of my favourite alfresco dining experiences and what you can do to make them just that extra bit special…
BBQ
One for the family and to enjoy with friends – whether we plan a BBQ for a lazy lunch and games in the garden or a sundown session with cold beers and blankets, there is always an array of food on offer. I enjoy preparing salads, breads, dips and a selection of sauces, butternut squash and plenty of halloumi and olives to accompany the essential meat!
I love to see all the food spread across the table in handpainted bowls and plates with brightly coloured napkins. We serve our drinks straight from an iced tin tub and lay plenty of cushions and throws on the grass for everyone to sit and enjoy the food, while waiting for the next instalment fresh from the grill.
Paella
For a night off from the children, I love preparing a huge Paella in the garden accompanied with a large jug (or two!) of Sangria for the ultimate summer evening in with friends. Such a sociable meal and one that doesn’t leave much washing up – it’s a great dish to serve up when you don’t fancy spending half the evening standing over the cooker.
We will all gather around the table; festoon lights on, chilled Summer playlist on and a stack of after dinner board games to enjoy with a fresh fruit salad or, some delicious desserts.
Picnic
The ultimate alfresco experience of British Summertime has to be the picnic doesn’t it? If you’re at home in the garden or away in the park there’s something quite special about carefully prepared sandwiches, treats to nibble on like boiled eggs, olives, crisps and cherry tomatoes.
Whatever the weather I’ll always pack a flask with some iced tea and I’ll pile blankets and a few bats and balls into the car – along with Asia!
