How to style the perfect table for different gatherings.

I love nothing more than having friends and family over for dinner, drinks and BBQS. Not just because I love the company, but I love getting everything ready – doing the food shop, preparing the dishes and most of all – styling the perfect table. Here are a few ideas of how to style the perfect table for different gatherings.

 

Brunch with the Girls

When I know the girls are coming over, at the top of my list is Prosecco, with a splash of Orange Juice for Brunch. Also on my list is a bunch of brightly coloured blooms.

At this time of year I like to get us outside in the fresh air so I’ll scatter cushions on the floor as seating, place a brightly coloured runner down the middle of the table (to match the flowers) and place woven trays to hold drinks and condiments. If the girls are coming over there are likely to be cups of coffee too so it’s a great excuse to use my ‘Morning Beautiful’ mugs.

When I style the perfect table, it’s all about creating a relaxed atmosphere that we can enjoy from Breakfast right through to Lunch.

A Big Family Roast

Sunday’s in our house are all about family. We always host a roast and invite everyone over to sit and enjoy some good food together on the last day of the week.

Preparing a table for a roast dinner must always include napkins for those accidents with the gravy, bowls for extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds and my Sunday special hand painted plates. And of course, at centre stage our cut of meat for everyone to tuck into!

After-School Club

My children love to have their friends over for tea after school and sometimes I’ll go the extra mile and prep some after dinner games for them to enjoy while they wait for pudding! This is a fun table that could even be great at a wedding.

The centre piece will consist of a tray stacked with colouring pens and pencils, surrounded by my favourite polar bear plates and some milk bottles for juice. Making dinnertime a place to enjoy, always leads to a clear plate!

Dine in for Two

The perfect date night in. We all need to time to relax and unwind with a loved one.

Preparing the table for a romantic meal has to include candles and a bottle of something special. I like to use black ceramic dinnerware for eating indoors or white for outdoors – whatever compliments the lighting. Maybe even a rose petal or two if I’m feeling particularly romantic!
