Hygge moments and Holiday movies

Hygge moments and Holiday movies.

It’s at this time of year that I start getting excited about the idea of holiday movies. For me snuggling up as a family, the fire blazing, a large bowl of popcorn (salted for me), warm drinks and plenty of blankets is the ideal way to spend an afternoon. For me this is a Hygge moment.

I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite Hygge films and some I’m keen to watch this year for the first time.

The Holiday – this has become an essential part of Christmas for me and I love the feel good factor of this film. The best Hygge moment in this film is when they are all curled up inside the tent in the little girls bedroom. Fairy lights, pillows, cushions and plenty of cosiness. But there are plenty of Hygge moments all through this film.

About Time – we watched this film again the other day, and the sentiment that it creates to ‘live every day as if it’s your last’ is very motivational rather than downcast. It certainly reminded me to ‘make today count’. A lovely film that celebrates family. I think their Hygge moment is tea and cake on the beach most days.

Love Actually – another great film – funny, romantic and feel good. It leaves you with a feeling of being proud to be British. There are some sad moments, but ultimately it’s about family, friends and seizing the moment.

Miracle on 34th Street  – this is another must have at Christmas for me. I love the new version, but I am planning to watch the older version this year. This film warms the heart and reminds you that Christmas is about family, believing and kindness.

The Polar Express – this has become our classic Christmas movie as a family. It creates a wonderful sense of awe and wonder and I love seeing it through the eyes of the children.

It’s a Wonderful Life  – I can’t believe I’ve never watched this film. I am certainly planning to watch it this year.

Whatever films you watch this Christmas, make it an occasion. Cosy up wrapped in blankets, eat popcorn or sweet treats, make hot chocolate and shut off from the world as a family, with friends or even on your own. Creating a Hygge moment is very simple, just put away all distractions and focus on ‘time’ together.

Enjoy and Happy Hygge film watching!
